Azita Ghahreman is an Iranian poet, writer, and translator. Born in Mashhad in 1962, she has resided in Sweden since 2006. Azita is the author of 18 books, including poetry collections, novels, and translations from Persian into Swedish and English. Her poetry and stories have been published in various languages, with translations available in German, Dutch, Italian, Turkish, Hindi, Arabic, Chinese, Swedish, French, and English. Additionally, one of her books has been translated into Russian.Her most recent collection of selected poems, Negative of a Group Photograph, was published by Bloodaxe Books in London in 2018. Her latest novel was released in Swedish in 2019.
Azita’s works have been nominated for multiple literary awards. In 2013, she received the Swedish PEN’s Prince Wilhelm Scholarship. In 2014, her poems, translated into Russian and Ukrainian, were honored with the Ludvig Nobel Prize by the Udmurtia Russian Academy. A dual-language Farsi-English edition of her work, titled Negative of a Group Photograph (Farsi title: نگاتیو یک عکس دسته جمعی), translated by Maura Dooley and Elhum Shakerifar, was shortlisted for the Warwick Prize for Women in Translation in 2019.
